The rubbers

So these things are starting up in Toronto. Yikes!

I felt bad when I was in NYC to see all the model types kicking these
things around in the sun. Now, T.O. is getting it.

But aren't they about just the most ugly things in the world?

Palais Royale

I walked by Parkdale on Saturday and found this piece of Toronto history.

I've read about this place in history books and CanLit novels. This is some kind of hookup place for WWII vets very classy.

The Palais Royale closed down when the Gardener essentially severed the waterfront from Toronto.

Anywho, looks like private developers has revived the place with a lease agreement from the city.

The site is gorgeous. And the massive patio facing the waters makes it the most beautiful scene in the city.

Afterparty World Cup: France vs Korea 1-1

This shows why the Korean soccer fans are the best in the world. The Reds tied and still they're cheering. Koreatown is quickly becoming the World Cup centre of Toronto as fans of other nations quickly realizes the energy and openess of the Korean fans. (It helps too that they have lots of hot girls.)

First, Brazillians came to extend their victory celebration all the way from Ossington. A few Japanese came as well, they lost but are having a good time anyways. Even French fans showed up with Tricolors and Les Bleues uniforms.

After a couple of hours, I lost count. They were many Portugese fans that drove by as well as Argentina, England, Germany, Costa Rica, and even one very angry Italian. (guy was a choad.)

Cops came but even they knew that the Koreans were there to celebrate not to cause trouble. So they just hung around, directed traffic and left the fans to their revelry. It was all very orderly. More than once, a fan pulled me off the street on to the pavement because I was blocking traffic. Only Koreans: soccer hooligans with a sense of decency and ethics of self-policing. These guys are great!

There actually a lot of people who are not Koreans, don't know any Koreans, and have no connections to the penninsula that came out in support of Korea. It's obvious that the enthusiasm combined with their virtuous condunct has made the Reds, Toronto's unofficial team in the World Cup.

BRASIL!

Brazil beats The Aussie 2-0.

Celebrated in Little Portugal afterwards.

Keira Knightly

The new pirates of caribbeans is coming out next month, but apparently
sans Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. The whole point of the movie is an
ensemble.

As pretty and possible talented as she is, I don't know if Keira
Knightly can carry the whole movie.

They are starting to cloth the this monstrousity

Some kind of siding is going up on the ROM. I hope it will look better
than the post-apocalytic, melted steel beams look it has been achieving
the last year or so.

WTF! Jean Grey?

I did the stupid "Which X-Men are you test" an this is what I got:

You Are Jean Grey

Although your fate is often unknown, you always seem to survive (even after death).
Your mind is your greatest weapon, literally!

Powers: telepathy and telekinesis, the ability to project thoughts into the mind of others, communication with animals

What it means to be driven

Today while I was out with the RP crew, I was outside and a guy from
Saudi Arabia approached me. He wanted to know where all the "dance
clubs" are. I told him: they are on Richmond, but it's 9:30 on a tuesday
night. Nothing happens right now. He wouldn't take that for an answer.
He dragged me along so I can show him.

I felt a little bad; my best friend from high school was from "the
Kingdom" and it kind of suck there to PU. Males and females cannot even
talk to eacho other. He told me that in elementry school, the boys would
go to school in the morning. After when they all left, girls get to go
to school.

I can FEEL this guy's desperation and feeling of hopelessness. He needed
to see women tonight. He wants to talk to them. You see from the look of
his eyes that deep inside, from the deepest recesses of his soul, take
them into the fury of his animalistic embrace. How can I say no to this
guy? What man who feels the demon inside of him can?

We walked to Richmond and everything was closed. I tried to tell him to
go to Montana or just anything on John. He tells me: you're my brother,
show me. We went with our pack of Camel Lights and start looking.

No good, Montana no longer opens up their lounge on Tuesday. The hostess
tries to be helpful and offered advice for the Century Club. I told her:
my friend, he is from Riyad, they wrap up people's face there. He needs
to see a woman tonight. He might leave tomorrow and go back there. We
went to Up. It was the same. Not open, not really on Tuesday.

I was a little concern now. I still have my friends, hamburger, and
coffee at Jeriahmia's. These guys are cool; they won't stand for me just
taking off like that. I tried to point my new brother off to King
Street. Only a block away.

- No, his eyes said to me. You must show me.

We walked off again and this time to Bistro 332. It was empty. We
chatted up the waiter their, but he didn't know either. Almost
rhetorically he asked, who goes out on a Tuesday night? He led us to
Aldo, the bouncer, who is always trying to alpha everybody. He does it
again and made my Saudi friend feels bad.

- You want got a condom? hahahaha

Malki was starting to feel like shit. He doesn't need this. He wants
women. He doesn't know what he wants to do with them. But the urge is
strong; he wants them.

Tried Piccadliy's but closed on Tuesday as well. Only a bunch of skater
kids, using the ramp, wondering what the fuck a Chinese guy and Arab guy
is doing. Running like the devil is upon them.

We walked off again, this time wrapped back from Spadina, back to
Richmond and up Peters. We're back to omy stomping: Tonic. But no open.

Across the street is Buddha Bar. We are desperate now. He is desperate
and by sheer vibe of his aura, I am desperate too. They're open, but
from the window, they have no girls. Just a few energy kids doing
b-dance. This is the worse environment for PU, but anything is worth a
shot now. We plunged in --- and the bouncer stopped us for ID.

I gave him my driver's Lic while buddy just gave his ISIC card. To his
credit, the bouncer was professional and polite:

- Sorry. I can't take this. Only government ID like a driver license or
a passport. Landed immigrant papers. Or anything from the government.

The bouncer was adaminite. Malki tried and tried. He lied and said his
passport was in Missauga. The he tried the truth: it was with a relative
who is keeping it from him until he leaves. He shot angry looks. He gave
puppy dog looks. He asked if he can go in with my driver's license. The
bouncer just kept smiling, nodded his head in understanding and gave us
all the lines from the Smartserve manual on "how to handle difficult
customers."

It was hopeless. We just sat outside the bar on the steel chairs next to
the young spruce trees. Malki looked around to all the colours of the
disco lights from the inside and he broke.

- What do you want to do tonight with girls? Fuck them? I said.

- No! Just want to talk to them and be their friend.

This man probably never had a female acquaintance, and he probably never
will. He sat like the loniest man on Richmond Street. And I left him.

We said our goodbyes, he said he understood I have to go back to my
friends. I knew he had lied before, he had no friends in Toronto to go
clubbing with him. Just him, his ISIC card and the demon inside that
pushes him ever forward without telling him where he will be going.

And I left him --- with two more Camel Lights and my cell number to call
me on Thursday.

I ran all the way back to Jeramiaha's, slowing down only to catch my
breath because of all the cigarettes. Back with my RP friends and they
weren't happy. They had the right and I feel bad about that. But I knew
I did right that night and that made up the difference to me.

Oscar Wilde is a genius!

I have been looking for a way to describe many of the artsy people I
know. And who should provide but the sharpest tongue of the English
language.

WTF Doomstown

This thing is painful to watch. It seems to employ every sterotype in
the book. Black people in the ghetto. Drug dealers. Wailing, black
mother mourning for son lost in gun violence. Dumb thugs, and the
sociopathic head dealer...

Shit. Who the hell wrote this thing?

Unauthorized photoshoot on TTC

just saw these guys on the TTC. I don't know who they are but the
photographer had semi-pro equipment, a Vivicar but no reflectors

The "talent were in costume. At least, I hope they were costumes. No
straight man should onw short shorts that short....

Best Birthday Present Ever.

So, I just got call from my friend JC that he won first place at the provincial dance competition he was in. I am very happy.

Karen Solie's "Untitled"

A new batch of "Poetry on the Way" is on the TTC.

This one, "Untitled" by Karen Solie, caught my eye by its use of
permutations. The poem repeats certain sentence, then altered them
slightly.

For example:

"Someone curled an arm around you as you slept, / and uponwaking gently
touched your face."

becomes,

"Someone curled an arm around you as you slept, / and in the afternoon
reached a hand towards you that you held, simply."

becomes,

"This afternoon I took his hand, simply, and reach across the words I'd
left behind."

I tried writing like this once to little success.

Just a little plagarism of cummings

if you like my poems let them
walk in the evening, a little behind you

then people will say
"Along this road i saw a princess pass
on her way to meet her lover (it was
toward nightfall) with tall and ignorant servant."

Brasil!

A group of activists from Brazil visited Regent Park today. We talked,
interviewed them for the show and, afterwards, ate a Somali place. Good
times.
